Mind Map - Problem Solving

What’s the Problem?

Trinidad and Tobago should have a significant amount of digital information about NCDs released for the public. (Ideal Condition)

However, currently upon personal investigation there is little to no digital information about NCDs in Trinidad and Tobago. (Issue - the gap)

Misinformation thrives in the absence of easily accessible, credible information. When people look for information online and see limited or contradictory search results, they may be left confused or misinformed.

For example, in South Africa, “AIDS denialism”—a false belief denying that HIV causes AIDS—was adopted at the highest levels of the national government, reducing access to effective treatment and contributing to more than 330,000 deaths between 2000 and 2005. Health misinformation has also reduced the willingness of people to seek effective treatment for cancer, heart disease, and other Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) conditions.(Consequence)

Another example:

To reduce health misinformation, a live digital dashboard of NCDs should be developed and released online for the public and users should be able to engage with the data providing them with a probability of having an NCD based on analysed conditions. (Proposal)

Limiting the prevalence and impact of misinformation will help all of us make more informed decisions about our health and the health of our loved ones and communities. (Benefits)

Analysis of the current situation?

Currently from doing personal research there was one graphic of the NCDs found. Currently requesting information to find out if any other digital information exists.

Solutions

Modernising public health communication by new messaging and engagement strategies

  1. To reduce health misinformation, a live digital dashboard of NCDs should be developed (how) and released online on the Ministry of Health’s website (where) for the public consumption (who - citizens, researchers, journalists, other government ministries, agencies). It will be available at any time from anywhere when the user accesses the website (when).

  1. The public (who) should be able to engage with the dashboard application providing them with a probability of having an NCD based on analysed conditions (how) online (where). It will be available at any time from anywhere when the user accesses the Ministry of health website (when).

Proactively and rapidly release accurate, easy-to-understand health information online.

Implement

During the COVID-19 pandemic, health misinformation has sowed confusion, reduced trust in public health measures, and hindered efforts to get people vaccinated. And misinformation hasn’t just harmed our physical health, it has also divided our families, friends, and communities. While health misinformation has always been a problem, today it spreads at unprecedented speed and scale because of social media. But we know enough to be sure that misinformation is an urgent threat, and that we can and must confront it.
