Obtaining data for my thesis through questionnaires has proven to be more challenging than I initially anticipated.

I dedicated a considerable amount of time to creating a 20-question questionnaire for my thesis study on machine learning, specifically targeting banking professionals involved in financing, banking, and loan origination - a relatively small group of individuals. After compiling a list of professionals to reach out to, I sent the questionnaire via email. However, to my disappointment, none of them had completed it when I checked the following day. In an effort to improve response rates, I decided to contact each person individually via phone and WhatsApp to request their participation. Although I messaged some via WhatsApp, I still had to clarify the purpose of the questionnaire over the phone. Unfortunately, out of the 11 people I contacted thus far, only one responded positively. It's become clear that I need to alter my approach to gathering data from these banking professionals. Consequently, I have extended the deadline for data collection, as I had originally hoped to obtain ...

Research using Machine Learning algorithms to predict borrower creditworthiness and reduce defaults for micro finance institutions in trinidad and tobago

Doing research on Machine learning algorithms for the financial industry. This research will help me to answer some questions like What is a machine learning algorithm (MLA)? How does it work? When should we use an MLA and when not to use it? and why use MLA? I would like to find out how effective MLA is for predicting borrower creditworthiness? If there are many MLAs, compare which is the best and most efficient for reducing defaults. Compare the use of no MLA to MLA used and which is more profitable. Look at the microfinance industry related to default rates in Trinidad and Tobago. See how MLA can be applied to this industry to decrease default rates. To do this, I will have to do an interview or questionnaire.

Interview with the Ministry of Health a disaster or a teachable moment

On, November 2nd Wednesday 10am I had an interview meeting with  Latishar Ramchan (Secretary) and  Dr. Roshan Parasram of the Ministry of Health. This meeting was to get some answers for my thesis which is to find out if the Ministry has any digital resources for NCDs? My proposal was to implement a digital dashboard for NCDs for the public from a credible source. As before information from sources that are not credible can damage a community for example gossip and misinformation spread for covid-19.  In summary, the meeting was a disaster for me as I did not get the information I set forth to get, and I felt I was unprepared. I may have had to do some research before entering this meeting in terms of the background and get some answers to my questions from research, so I could have entered into this meeting with it more fruitful. So, in the future, I know how to better prepare for meeting events like these.

Hello, World!

My first blog post for my ICT Thesis. Hello, World! It has been a difficult journey from the start on development of my proposal of a NCD analysis dashboard and one that can predict the likelihood that a citizen will get one of the NCDs. Pretty interesting stuff. I promised the neighborhood vet that I will share my findings.  Obtaining the interview and information from specific people in the Ministry of Health on digital resources of NCDs has been a pain that can only be solved by patience and perseverance. Its alot of back and forth, with everyone seeming to dodge the request in the Ministry and I have to acknowledge the support of my mother (Sharon Jobity), supervisor (Ms. Wharwood) and friend (Kerri Griffith, who is also doing her Masters Thesis and is struggling too) to be really helpful. Maybe, I should use another approach than calling and sending emails. On Monday, I have to call and ask the Dr. to refer the information back to the Ministry's IT Director. Hopefully I should...

Mind Mapping

Image
Mind Map - Problem Solving What’s the Problem? Trinidad and Tobago should have a significant amount of digital information about NCDs released for the public. (Ideal Condition) However, currently upon personal investigation there is little to no digital information about NCDs in Trinidad and Tobago. (Issue - the gap) Misinformation thrives in the absence of easily accessible, credible information. When people look for information online and see limited or contradictory search results, they may be left confused or misinformed.  For example, in South Africa, “AIDS denialism”—a false belief denying that HIV causes AIDS—was adopted at the highest levels of the national government, reducing access to effective treatment and contributing to more than 330,000 deaths between 2000 and 2005. Health misinformation has also reduced the willingness of people to seek effective treatment for cancer, heart disease, and other Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) conditions. (Consequence) Another...
